How to get a Vermont insurance license

As a life and health insurance education provider, our goal is to guide you through the pre-licensing process. In addition to completing your pre-licensing training, we have simplified the steps to attaining your Vermont insurance license.

Vermont Insurance Exam Qualifications

In order to qualify to sit for your Life, or Accident, Health & HMO, or Life, Accident, Health & HMO Vermont insurance exam, the following must occur:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Be a resident of the state of Vermont
  • Must not have committed any act that is a ground for denial of license

Basic Steps to Obtain a Vermont Insurance License

  1. Prepare for your state exam with an insurance course from a Vermont insurance school for the Life or Accident, Health & HMO insurance license, or a course for the Life, Accident, Health & HMO insurance license.
  2. Schedule your state exam online through Prometric, or contact them by phone at 1-800-868-6113.
  3. Upon successful completion of your state exam, you should complete an insurance license application through Vertafore (formerly Sircon). Once you are on Vertafore’s website, you will choose 'Apply for a license' from the menu on the left. On the next page choose 'Individual' next to Submit Resident Application. Next, complete the application by choosing Vermont, entering your information and submitting the appropriate application fees.
Expected Licensing Costs:
$50 Exam Fee - Life only or Accident, Health & HMO
$65 Exam Fee - Life, Accident, Health & HMO
$60 Application Fee

Helpful Hints to Licensure

  • Applicants with disabilities should make special arrangements by calling Prometric at 1-888-226-9406 prior to registering for the exam
  • If English is not your first language, you can request additional time for your insurance exam by requesting an ESL authorization from Prometric. In addition, you must also provide a personal letter requesting the authorization and a signed letter from your instructor at National Online Insurance School or sponsoring company. For more information you can also contact Prometric directly by phone at 1-800-853-5448. This must be completed prior to scheduling your insurance exam.
