How to get a Georgia insurance license

Step 1: Complete a Georgia Pre-Licensing Insurance Course

To qualify for the Georgia insurance license exam, you must complete a pre-licensing insurance course that is certified by the Georgia Office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner. Upon passing the pre-licensing course final exam, you will be awarded a Certificate of Course Completion.

Step 2: Pass the Georgia Insurance License Exam

Upon successfully completing your pre-licensing insurance course, you must register with Pearson Vue to take your state insurance exam. Exam reservations can be made online at the Pearson Vue website or over the phone at (800) 274-0488.

About the state exam

• You are required to provide two current forms of identification at the testing center. The name on the identification must exactly match the name on the registration. The primary identification must be government-issued and photo-bearing with a signature, such as a driver's license, passport, etc. The secondary identification must contain a valid signature and must not be expired, such as a Debit (ATM) or Credit card. You are not required to present your Certificate of Course Completion.
• Exam times are typically available in the morning, afternoon and early evening at various locations throughout the state
• You should arrive 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment to allow time for check-in procedures. If you arrive late you will not be allowed to take your exam and will forfeit your exam fee.
• Applicants with disabilities should make special arrangements prior to registering for the state exam by contacting the testing administrator at (800) 466-0450
• Passing score is 70%

Step 3: Submit Electronic Fingerprints

You must schedule an appointment to submit electronic fingerprints to complete a background check. Fingerprints are required by the Georgia Office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner to ensure that applicants do not have a disqualifying criminal or social services background that would prevent them from being a licensed insurance agent.

Resident candidates taking an insurance exam for the first time must be fingerprinted. If you already hold an active insurance license with the Georgia Office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner, you are not required to submit a new set of fingerprints.

Click the button below and follow the steps to register your appointment:

1. Once on the Fieldprint website, click on the "Sign Up" button to create an account.
2. Read and respond to the E-Sign Act Disclosure and Consent Agreement.
3. Enter the information requested to create your account. Your security questions and answers will be used to verify your identity when logging in the future.
4. A Verify Account screen will appear once you've created the account. A Verification Code will be sent to you via email to verify your account. Please keep your browser open and do not exit the Fieldprint website while checking your email.
5. Enter the Verification Code provided in the email and select "Complete Registration."
6. A confirmation email will be sent to you once your email address has been verified.
7. After your account has been verified, you will be directed to a login screen where you can enter your login information and register for fingerprinting.

Step 4: Complete an Insurance License Application

You can apply for an insurance license through the Vertafore website. Click the button below and follow the steps to complete your application:

1. Click 'Apply for a license' from the menu on the left
2. Click the New Insurance License button within the 'New Insurance Licenses' section
3. Choose 'Resident,' then choose 'Individual,' and click the Continue button
4. Enter your email address
5. Enter your information and choose the state you wish to apply for a license, then click continue
6. Select 'Resident Agent' as your license type and continue
7. Select the types of license(s) you wish to apply for and continue
8. Enter all requested information and submit payment
9. After submitting payment, you must upload the following document and a secure and verifiable form of identification, such as your driver's license, through the Vertafore website. Your insurance license will not be issued until these items are received:

License qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• A resident of the state of Georgia
• Complete the required pre-licensing course hours for the lines of authority for which you are applying
• Pass the state insurance exam for the lines of authority for which you are applying
• Must not have committed any act that is a ground for denial, suspension, or revocation of license
